Dreadzone
April 26th 2010 sees the release of the much anticipated Dreadzone album EYE ON THE HORIZON. Reflecting the band illustrious past and innovative releases, EYE ON THE HORIZON firmly picks up where the bands popular top 20 chart hit LITTLE BRITAIN left off. It reinvents the band with ten tracks that signify the move into fully formed songwriting against a backdrop of dubwise dancabilty. This style helped them to become one of the UK’s original dance music pioneers , with a style that has since spawned many sub genres. MCing and reggae vocals partner the mix of live guitars, electronic beats and dub bass to perfection. The album features iconic samples (notably, the legendary theme from Long Good Friday on Gangster, a spoken word piece from Woody Guthrie and Dennis Browns Greensleeves classic Whip Them Jah on American Dread) all of which compliment the bass and beat heavy Dreadzone style perfectly.
The Dreadzone story began with Alan McGee‘s Creation Records and their first groundbreaking album 360, continuing with major waves their seminal 1995 album SECOND LIGHT picking up support from John Peel (who included the album in his top ten favourite albums of all time). The top 20 hit from that album LITTLE BRITAIN has since gone on to acquire classic status.

Dreadzone, the fervently followed British institution and original pioneers of UK bass culture are still going strong after eighteen years. Hit records, critical acclaim and a huge, devoted fan base are theirs, due in part to their utterly storming live shows. They released ‘The Good The Bad And The Dread’ - a compendium of their excellent musical story so far in 2011. The all-killer-no-filler 16 tracks collate the many highlights of ‘the Zone’s’ output to date - a coherent and still fresh-sounding body of work.
The core members Greg Dread, original bassmaster Leo Williams, the unmistakable MC Spee, legendary reggae vocalist Earl 16 alongside Chris Compton on guitar and Chris Oldfield on technology make up the current Dreadzone line up. Their roots are embedded in the history of West London sound clash and with a drum and bass partnership of 25 years this year Leo and Greg are still rolling strong and rocking the nation with their distinctive rhythms.

Five critically acclaimed albums later they are set to remind people why the Dread sound is still very much a part of the musical landscape of this country.

DREADZONE plus support
Famed for their stunning live performances and firm festival favourites, Dreadzone - whose music is an eclectic fusion of dub, reggae, electronica, folk and rock – are coming to STAND! on Saturday 14th April 2012 as they celebrate the special edition reissue of their acclaimed “Second Light” album.
DREADZONE
Dreadzone’s groundbreaking 1995 album ‘Second Light’ is to be released on 5th March 2012 by EMI as a two disc special edition featuring previously unreleased live concert material from Glastonbury 1995.
Electro-dub pioneers Dreadzone formed in 1993 when ex-Big Audio Dynamite drummer Greg Roberts teamed up with Tim Bran, with the duo soon joined by bassist Leo Williams and keyboardist Dan Donovan, also formerly of Big Audio Dynamite, completing the group’s first line-up. A festival favourite, Dreadzone opened the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 1994 and began to bring their unique blend of electro, dub and reggae to a wider audience, going on to chart seven Top 60 singles (including their Top 20 hit ‘Little Britain’) and are still going strong after 17 years.
Their second album Second Light (named by John Peel as one of his favourite albums of all time) has now been remastered at the world-famous AIR Studios and is available on deluxe 2CD and download. The Second Light Special Edition comes complete with an entire disc of bonus material including the John Peel session track ‘Maximum’ and a 45 minute live set from Glastonbury in 1995.
