Frozen Border “001″ - [Frozen Border] (buy) (buy)
This new white label from an unknown producer(s) popped up in the inbox last week & had me all exited as I had been listening to the sound clips on previous occasions. Frozen Border 001, (an appropriately titled EP for today’s weather) is a two-track-techno-tool of anonymous tracky techno.
The untitled A side is raw techno tool & like the majority of these untitled & mostly anonymous EP’s the music comes first and foremost it doesn’t have to rely on fancy names or gimmicks because the music in question is so good. However I hope it doesn’t become too regular because standards will slide if any Tom, Dick or Harry decide to take the copycat “raw” route . The track itself is what you might expect from the style of record, stripped down, raw & tracky. Personally, would I class it more of a tool than a track mmmm? I’m not sure you know because at 5am if this came through the speakers at your favourite weekend worship place I could almost guarantee it would be greeted by sweaty-gyrating bodies, screams of pure pleasure & a sea of hands - high in the air.
Not surprisingly, like the A side the B side is also untitled, raw & tracky. I find this side to be more early Chicago with its faced paced techy rhythms & stripped back to basics demeanor. A rolling techno groove & some quick-fire percussion lead the way forward only to be met with some short sharp synth action & regular intersections from the drums.
