This year London based rapper Ghostpoet has set music industry tongues wagging with his genre-defying debut album Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholoy Jam. He has dubbed himself "a lad with a lisp with some stories to tell". And of his mercury music prize nomination earlier this year said: 'If I win the Mercury prize my head will explode like a robot'.

Amongst a string of other UK shows, Ghostpoet is coming to Lancaster Library for an intimate set on Saturday 25 February 2012. Tickets are £7.50.

È inglese la novità più succosa in ambito “hip-hop e dintorni” emersa nel primo trimestre del 2011. Segnatevi questo nome: Obaro Ojimiwe in arte Ghostpoet. Viene da Londra, con quel suo particolare accento afro-cockney, anche se è originario di Coventry e gravita musicalmente sull’asse di sonorità di chiara matrice grime, uk-garage pre-dubstep, corrette con una punta di elettronica Warp e piallate in una forma canzone di stanza rap, piuttosto minimale, insinuante, discretamente orecchiabile. Un substrato che reagisce a meraviglia col timbro originale del suo mcing, abile nel mescolare metriche irregolari, frastica spoken word e brani semintonati. Come una specie di Mike Skinner narcolettico o un Dizzee Rascal brucaliffo col microfono in una mano e il narghilé nell’altra. Ghostpoet è un antieroe metropolitano, piccolo poeta dei sobborghi, graphic novelist del flow che compendia intimismo e ironia in un idioma onirico e crepuscolare allo stesso tempo, come si evince già dall’adorabile titolo di questo disco d’esordio: “Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam”. Non è una cronaca compiaciuta della vita di strada, la sua, ma della lotta pacifica e quotidiana per affrancarsi dalla stessa. Le sue liriche assomigliano stralci di reading pronunciati a tempo di musica in un book café di periferia, mentre fuori risuonano, ovattati, udibili appena, voci di spacciatori, sirene della polizia e tossici in fuga. L’autocoscienza parte da lì ed è un fatto privato, nel quale la malinconia si tinge sardonicamente di humor.

Greetings from Beacons. The cutting-edge music and arts festival will be taking place in a new location in the picturesque setting of the Funkirk Estate in Skipton this August. We are pleased to announce the 1st instalment of acts that will be performing this summer. A further 40+ acts will be announced in mid-March, including Saturday’s headline.

NEW SITE : A message from Beacons Festival regarding the cancellation of Beacons Festival 2011:

“Last year, due to extreme flooding, Health and Safety Executives made the decision to cancel Beacons Festival. We were devastated to have to cancel your party but were left with no choice. This year, we have moved the site away from any potential flood areas, still in the fantastic setting of Carleton. The new location is even more picturesque than the previous site and we feel it can only enhance people’s experience of what will be a truly amazing festival.”

Beacons Festival is set in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside; an affordable festival brought to you by a collective of tastemakers who, for years, have been bringing the best music to reputable Northern venues such as Leeds’ Nation of Shopkeepers and Brudenell Social Club, Sheffield’s Bungalows and Bears, Club Pony and the Shipping Forecast. We’ve also got the organisers of London-based festivals and events like Underage and Field Day and the Shacklewell Arms venue on board. This year, the main stage acts are presented in association with The Stool Pigeon magazine. The people behind Manchester’s coolest band nights, Now Wave are on board, as are London’s Eat Your Own Ears. Beacons will be bringing together the cream of the cities finest club nights and gig venues for one weekend in Yorkshire.

Beacons is a three-day, four-night festival and for a short period, tickets are available at just £60 (plus booking fee) for the weekend, including camping. There is also a student price of £55 (plus booking fee). These tickets are only available in the shop on production of a valid NUS card.
