Named after his Lower East Side neighbourhood in New York City, Ray Lugo, leader of KOKOLO, launches his soulful new project, L.E.S. EXPRESS, with a killer double-side ’45, featuring two of the most promising female vocalists on today’s scene and sure to keep many a discerning DJ happy.
On one side we find Brazilian newcomer Elani, waxing nostalgic about the mythic Bahia while working her sultry vocals through one of the grooviest tracks heard in a while.
The flipside features none other than the mighty Roxie Ray, vocalist of Aussie sensations DOJO CUTS. “Get On Up” confirms why she is making waves outside of her homeland, as she effortlessly commands this marvellous deep-funk nugget.
If this is only the beginning, then we have much to look forward to from Ray Lugo’s L.E.S. EXPRESS. A true must have!
