The Limp Twins
Russell Porter and Will Holland have known each other since their early teens and have always enjoyed making and listening to music together. As The Limp Twins the pair try to capture that enjoyment. William Holland has already won the world's attention with his previous releases for Tru Thoughts under the guises of Quantic and Quantic Soul Orchestra. Alongside Russell Porter's vocals and keys, Holland lends his deft production to The Limp Twins, as well as playing bass, guitar and saxophone. The songs draw from many different areas of music, and benefit from the pairs shared influences and individual tastes. Soul, Folk, Funk and Indie are brought together with Punk's DIY production ethics and aimed towards the dance floor. The upbeat feel and lo-fi groove of previous singles "Living Well" (Winner of Blues & Soul Single Of The Issue and also used for a Vodaphone advertising campaign) and "Movin Closer To The Sofa" can be heard throughout the songs on this album, with Porter's well crafted lyrics giving each one character and identity. From the anthemia of opening song "Tales From Beyond The Groove" to the low-slung funk of "Another Day In The Life Of Mr Jones" the album brims with a quirky swing; scratchy guitars and organs stutter over rolling bass and dusty drums. "The Limping Song" and "Sunday Driver" wander at a folk like pace, whilst "If It Ain't Broke……Break It" and forthcoming single "Elemental" bustle with beats and funk fuelled energy. "Bitter & Twistered" closes the album with a lonesome lullaby; voice, guitar and double bass swaggering around together at the end of the night.
